A Childhood Toy Memory

I should never go outside on trash day! From a neighbor's trash pile I saw what looked like a toy from my past childhood of 1940's/1950's and that is just too much for me to turn my back on!

Yep, I was right, laying in a heap of garbage was a glorious real slate blackboard from years past. It even had signs of crayon scribbled on the slate, something I was sent to my room for once upon a time.

With a little polish, arm & hammer to remove the crayon and a print out on photo paper of a Dick & Jane theme I now have a wonderful toy. Do I need anymore clutter? NO, but who could resist a piece of the past!

I love it!

One of the bedside tables in my guest room is one of those old "one-room schoolhouse" desks...the kind where the desk is attached to the seat in front. I have several old toys on top of it...some mine so not necessarily the same generation (I am a bit too young for that kind of desk). I have received several compliments on it.

You commented on my "baby" brother's photograph. I borrowed photos out of albums and portraits off the wall from my mother and scanned each and every one that I wanted. I then made cd's for not only myself but also for each of my brothers, my nieces and nephews, and one dear cousin. Now, we have one less thing to "fight" over.

I'll have to post a photo of my desk. I have both the back that you sit on and the front that you write on. It is a double desk so it's pretty old.

I got a real kick out of your brothers photo. My oldest son was born in 1963 and I dressed him exactly like your brother was dressed!
