Pink Slime

I flew to Pittsburgh on Tuesday for my doctor visit. There are new drugs that have been approved by the FDA but haven't been on the open market long enough to really know how they are effecting the masses. My Doctor will start me on one of them when I am back in Pennsylvania where he has more control in case something goes wrong.

As interesting as my flight was, it took a back seat to what I came home too. Dave had posted something on his facebook that has us both sick. Here is the article:

And...here is a look at what it looks like

We have been eating this. How long I don't know. We threw out all hamburger in the freezer and ordered a good meat grinder.

I am so thankful that I purchase my beef from a local fresh meat locker plant. They don't use that - well, I'm going to call it what I consider it - shit in my food. They grind your order right in front of you (behind the glass of course). I don't like fast food hamburgers, aka "hockey pucks."

In the city - to get around it - purchase a chunk of meat (sirloin roast or other roast) and ask the butcher to grind it. Unless, of course, you have your own grinder.

I'm glad you posted this. The idea of a meat grinder sound wonderful, but for the small amount of meat I buy, I think I'll try Sherry's thoughts on having the butcher grind it for me.

Duh...didn't see the note under the slime photo about you ordering a meat grinder. And I see from today's post that it came in.

Somewhere, I read that someone's mother always ran a couple of slices of bread through their grinder to help clean the machine and the bread when into the meat for meatloaf...
